FAQs 看片软件 the Dual Degree

Why should I enroll in the dual degree program?
There are many reasons to enroll in both the BAS at 看片软件 State and the B.S.Ed. at either Valley City State or Minot State.
  • Earn TWO degrees in four* years
*some licensing programs require an additional semester or summer courses throughout the four years
  • Less expensive than four years at a university!
  • Built to provide training for your employment in the schools throughout your studies. We embed Title I Paraprofessional training into your teacher preparation coursework so you can be a Paraprofessional while studying to be a fully licensed teacher! No other educator preparation program in our state does this.
  • Practicums every semester in the schools, so you can immediately apply your learning to real experience!
What does 鈥渄ual degree鈥 mean?
Dual degree means that you will earn TWO bachelor’s degrees at the same time: a Bachelor of Applied Science through BSC and a Bachelor of Science in Education through VCSU or MiSU.

What does 鈥渄ual enrollment鈥 mean?
Dual enrollment means that you are enrolled in both schools simultaneously each semester.
  • BSC will be your “Home” institution.
    • Each semester, you will enroll in more credits with BSC than in the partner institution (i.e., at least 9 credits at BSC + at least 3 credits at VCSU/MiSU), except for the final semester of student teaching.
    • Financial aid will come through BSC.
How many credits do I need to complete both degrees? And how many each semester?
It varies with which licensing area you want in the end, but here are the basics:
  • Depending on your chosen licensing area (see licensing areas in next question), you will complete 128-140 credits total (approximate) to earn the two degrees.
    • Early Childhood Ed, Special Ed, Physical Ed, and some other licensing programs require more credits than other licensing programs (e.g., Elementary Ed).
    • If you want to add on additional Endorsements (e.g., Kindergarten, English Learners, etc.), this will increase the number of credits needed and likely extend your timeline to your degree completion.
  • Most students will take a full-time load (12+ credits*) every semester to be eligible for financial aid. Some students will be working full-time and may only be able to take a part-time load each semester. Taking part-time credit loads each semester will extend the time needed to complete all requirements and will not be eligible for financial aid.
    • *Students will find that they can complete both degrees in approximately four years – depending on licensing area – if they take 14-18 credits each semester.
NOTE 1: Advisors are skilled at helping you select courses that will balance the level of difficulty each semester so you can manage life and studies.
NOTE 2: Some K-12 licensing areas will require an additional semester (4.5 years) or summer coursework throughout the four years of study.

What licensing areas are available with the dual degree program?
  • BSC (for all students):
    • Title I Paraprofessional Certificate of Completion
    • ND Substitute Teaching License

      • Special Education (grades K-12)
  • MiSU Licensing Options:

Where will my classes be if I am enrolled in both places?
You can choose to be an on-campus student with BSC or an online student. All courses at the partner institution will be available online so you can stay at BSC as your Home.
  • BSC On-Campus: Courses will be in our hallways on a specified schedule.
  • BSC Online: Courses will be available online and asynchronously to go around your life schedule.
  • Partner Institution Online: Nearly all courses will be available online and asynchronous to go around your life schedule; however, there may be instances when an online course is only offered synchronously to ensure the quality necessary for that major (e.g., Early Childhood).
